Brazilian Butt Lift
Brazilian butt lift surgery (aka the BBL) remains one of the most popular plastic surgery procedures over the past decade as more people have looked for ways to accentuate and shape the buttocks without resorting to buttock implants and the potential complications they can cause. In a Brazilian butt lift, the patient’s own fat is transferred from one area of the body – to the buttocks. Over time, the fatty tissue becomes part of the surrounding tissues giving a more pleasing contour. Give us a call today for a personal Brazilian butt lift consultation.\
If you are considering a BBL, it is important to educate yourself about the procedure, including what it entails, its benefits, and the potential risks. This webpage provides an overview of the BBL procedure and what you can expect during your journey.
Benefits of BBL
- BBL can enhance the size and shape of your buttocks, giving you a more youthful, attractive appearance.
- The procedure can help to improve your self-confidence and overall body image.
- The results of your BBL are long-lasting so long as you maintain a stable weight
The BBL Procedure
- BBL typically begins with a consultation with Dr Baumholtz to determine if the procedure is right for you.
- During the procedure itself, excess fat is removed from areas of the body with excess fat, such as the abdomen, hips, or thighs, through liposuction.
- The fat is then processed and transferred to the buttocks to create a more rounded appearance.
- The procedure is typically performed under general anesthesia and takes several hours to complete.
Recovery After BBL
- After your BBL, you will need to wear a compression garment to help reduce swelling and support the treated area.
- You may experience some discomfort and swelling for the first few days after the procedure, but these symptoms will gradually subside.
- You should avoid strenuous physical activity for several weeks after BBL to allow your body to properly heal.
- Most people are able to return to work within a week after the procedure, but this will depend on the extent of your treatment and your individual healing process.
Risks and Considerations
- As with any cosmetic procedure, there are risks associated with BBL, including infection, bleeding, and dissatisfaction with the results.
- It is important to choose a qualified plastic surgeon with experience in BBL to minimize the risks associated with the procedure. DrB performs many BBLs and will bring the safest, most reliable techniques to your care.
- You should also be aware that the results of BBL may not be permanent and that weight fluctuations and aging can impact the appearance of your buttocks over time.
In conclusion, BBL can be a great way to enhance the size and shape of your buttocks, giving you a more youthful, attractive appearance. With the right procedure and a qualified plastic surgeon, you can achieve the results you desire and feel confident in your own skin. Should I get a BBL?
Having a Brazilian butt lift in San Antonio can be a good option for women OR men who feel their buttocks are too small in proportion with the rest of the body. Butt lift surgery can also improve the roundness of a butt that looks square or angular. If the concern is for buttock sag – we may need to discuss a surgical solution such as a buttock or backside lift.
Is a BBL treatment a good choice for me?
The best way to know if a Brazilian butt lift can help you improve your appearance and achieve your goals is to schedule a consultation and evaluation with Dr. Baumholtz. As a board-certified, fellowship-trained plastic surgeon, Dr. Baumholtz is skilled in helping men and women who are considering a Brazilian butt lift surgery in San Antonio area understand their options when it comes to improving the appearance of their buttocks, and he has significant experience in Brazilian butt lift surgery as well as other related body contouring procedures, liposuction surgery and abdominoplasty (tummy tuck surgery), all of which can also be used to enhance the appearance of the buttocks and lower torso.
During your initial visit, Dr. Baumholtz will perform a physical exam and evaluation to determine if a butt lift is the best option for helping you get the look you want, and he’ll also determine the best location for grafting the fat that will be used in the procedure. Then, he’ll review your medical history and discuss any concerns or questions you may have.
Am I a good candidate for a Brazilian butt lift?
A Brazilian butt lift can be a good solution for men and women in San Antonio who want a more rounded buttocks shape or who want to augment and lift a butt that appears flat, saggy or too small. Candidates should be in good general health and should have ample fat in other areas of the body which can serve as donor sites. People who are very slim might not be good candidates for Brazilian butt lifts, but might do better with buttock implant surgery that uses synthetic implants to achieve a rounded or larger appearance.
Should I prepare for a Brazilian butt lift?
Once you’ve decided to move forward with the surgery, you’ll be provided with a list of guidelines to follow in the weeks before surgery to help ensure a speedy recovery and optimal results. If you smoke, you’ll need to quit for six weeks prior to surgery to promote proper healing, and you’ll also need to stop taking aspirin or other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medication to reduce the risk of bleeding. Be sure to tell Dr. Baumholtz about any other medications or supplements you’re taking, as well as any allergies you have and any prior surgeries you’ve had performed. Dr. Baumholtz will take photographs of your buttocks from different angles to help guide the procedure, and he’ll review the surgical procedure and the recovery process so you know what to expect. It’s very important to clearly discuss the results you’re hoping to achieve so your surgery can be planned accordingly.
What happens during a Brazilian butt lift procedure?
Most Brazilian butt lift procedures take two to three hours so a BBL in San Antonio is performed as an outpatient procedure. Though you will need to have someone ready to drive you home afterward and to stay with you for the first night following your procedure.
On the day of your procedure, you’ll meet with Dr. Baumholtz at the hospital or surgery center, and he’ll go over the procedure with you once more, answering any remaining questions you might have. Then the areas to be addressed will be marked. Your vital signs will be taken and you’ll be given medication to help you relax. Most procedures are performed under general anesthesia.
Once in the BBL surgery, Dr. Baumholtz will begin by removing fat from the donor sites (usually the belly, back, hips or thighs) and then processing it so it’s ready to be transferred to the graft locations in your buttocks. The fat will be removed through small incisions using a special tube-shaped suctioning device called a cannula. Next, incisions will be made in the buttocks area and the processed fat will be re-injected using syringes and cannulas. The fat grafts are placed at different depths to create smooth layers of tissue for a uniform, rounded result. Once all the fat has been grafted into the buttocks areas, the incisions will be closed and covered with surgical dressings and a special compression bandage or garment to help reduce swelling in the area. Small drains also may be inserted to prevent fluid and pressure from building up behind the incisions.

What should I expect during my BBL recovery?
Immediately after BBL surgery, you’ll be moved to a recovery area for observation and monitoring before being discharged. As the anesthesia wears off, you’ll begin to experience discomfort and you’ll be provided with a prescription for pain medication to help you stay comfortable. You’ll be provided with a special compression garment to wear over the surgical sites and buttocks, and it’s very important to wear the garment as directed to minimize swelling and promote healing in the area. You’ll also be provided with instructions on how to care for surgical drains IF they were used during your procedure.
On the first day, you’ll need to rest in bed, lying on your stomach to prevent pressure on your buttocks. Walking may begin that day or the next. Since the muscles surrounding the buttocks will be sore and bruised, walking and other activities will be uncomfortable, so be sure to follow Dr. Baumholtz’ advice regarding your level of activity and take your pain medication as prescribed. Except for when you use the toilet, you’ll need to avoid sitting for the first 10 days to avoid disrupting the sutures.
After 10 days, you may sit with pillows supporting the muscles in your upper thighs, keeping your buttocks elevated to avoid pressure. You’ll need to practice supported sitting for at least two months to help the fat become successfully incorporated into the buttocks area, and you’ll need to continue wearing a supportive compression garment for that time as well. If you have one or more surgical drains, they’ll be removed within a week. The area around your buttocks and the fat donor site will be bruised and tender, but these issues should resolve within a week or two.
Swelling in and around the buttocks can last for several months following BBL treatment. Typically, you’ll see your new shape within three to six months, once swelling has subsided and the surviving fat grafts have “settled in.” The incisions used in a Brazilian butt lift procedure are quite small – just large enough to admit the thin cannula to remove and then reinject the fat tissue. Over time, they’ll fade and become less visible. When possible, donor site incisions will be made in areas that are typically covered by clothing. Most patients return to work and resume driving (with pillow supports) after about two weeks.
Will my BBL results be permanent?
The results of a Brazilian butt lift are long-lasting and intended to be permanent. Following care instructions is vitally important for ensuring your fat grafts stay healthy and fuse with the surrounding tissues. If you have questions or concerns about your care, you should call the office right away to make sure your recovery stays on track. The fat that’s implanted into your buttocks will still be subjected to the normal effects of aging as well as weight gain and weight loss, and you should follow a healthy diet and exercise plan to help maintain your new shape.
What are some Brazilian buttock lift risks?
Many risks are associated. These risks can be devastating. I typically put the fat in the more superficial layers to lessen some of the risks. Additional risks include asymmetry and the inability to achieve the patient’s goals-either because they don’t have enough of their own donor material or they had unrealistic expectations.
